Kate Upton is all smiles after having lunch with her mother at Nello's Restaurant on Madison Avenue in New York City Thursday (August 5). She should be—it’s been a week of honors for the leggy blonde, capped by her appearance on the front of Vanity Fair when it comes out Friday.
The magazine is celebrating its 100th-year anniversary with its October cover featuring the actress and model. In a series of portraits taken by renowned photographer Annie Leibovitz, Upton is pictured lounging on the moon in a pose that mimics the original cover of Vanity Fair from 1913--except the publication was called Dress & Vanity Fair back then.
Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter began editing the title in 1992, the same year that Miss Upton was born. He writes, "In an age when nothing seems to last − not convictions, not even cities − a centennial, like the one Vanity Fair celebrates this year, makes me marvel at the simple fact of longevity."
On Wednesday, the 21-year-old was named “Model of the Year” at the 10th annual Style Awards that kicked off New York’s Mercedes=Benz Fashion Week.
