Michael Douglas’ Emmy Award Acceptance Speech: Thanks Wife, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Shout-out to Imprisoned Son, Cameron
Michael Douglas delivered an unforgettable acceptance speech at the Primetime Emmys for for his performance as Liberace in “Behind the Candelabra,” filled with humor, gay innuendo, a thank you to Catherine Zeta-Jones, his estranged wife, and a shout-out to Cameron, his imprisoned son.
The veteran Oscar-winning actor’s much-discussed speech for the Emmy for Outstanding Actor in a Miniseries or Movie came towards the end of the long ceremony hosted by Neil Patrick Harris, which saw Elton John perform a new song in tribute to the iconic, trailblazer Liberace.
Michael Douglas thanked his co-star, Matt Damon, who had portrayed his lover, saying their joint effort in the movie was a “two-hander.” He went on to say, “You’re only as good as your other hand.”
He was by no means finished with his extended innuendo which had the audience roaring in laughter. In a touch of both humility and humor, he said that were it not for Matt Damon, he would not be accepting the award, and that he really felt he must share the Emmy statuette he held in his hand. So he posed the question to his fellow actor, “You want top or bottom?”
As laughter subsided, Michael Douglas thanked his wife, actress Catherine Zeta-Jones “for her support.” The couple recently announced their separation. He was observed alone on the red carpet, still wearing his wedding ring. He went on to thank his children, Dylan and Carys. He added “a shout out for my oldest son Cameron and hoping that I’ll be able and they’ll allow me to see him soon,” alluding to the long prison sentence he is serving for drug possession which will not see him released until 2018.

<P>To look at her, you'd think <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/rey_lana_del/artist.jhtml"_blank">Lana Del Rey's</a> inspirations come mostly from 1940s detective movies and sepia-toned Hollywood pinups. But the "Video Games" singer told England's Magic 105.4 that one of her big fashion and music icons is Britney Spears. </P><P> </P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Lana Del Rey Says Her Lyrics 'Are Personal'" id="vid:724891.id:1677189" width="240" height="211"></div><p> </P><P> </P><P>"I'm not really interested in a ton of female musicians but there is something about Britney that compelled me — the way she sings and just the way she looks," Del Rey said. And even though she's just released her major-label debut under the Del Rey name, she added that she's already kind of over music-making. </P><P> </P><P>"The thing that makes me happy now isn't really singing," she said. "Music was once the be-all and end-all, but when you lose everything you have over and over again, it's not so important." </P><P> </P><P>It might be a bit early for her to bail on the whole music thing though, since her album, <I>Born to Die</I>, topped the iTunes album charts in 14 countries this week, including the U.S., U.K., Italy, France, Germany, Ireland and Mexico. </P><P> </P><P>The chart triumph — and a possible #2 debut next week on the <I>Billboard</i> albums tally — came despite a rash of negative or <a href="/news/articles/1678050/lana-del-rey-album-born-to-die-reviews.jhtml">middling reviews</a>
 of the album as well as the continuing fallout from her shaky <a href="/news/articles/1677389/lana-del-rey-snl.jhtml">"Saturday Night Live"</a>
 debut last month. </P><P> </P><P>The haterade has gotten her label boss, Interscope's Jimmy Iovine, to chime in on the flack his latest protégé has been taking. "It's a drag," Iovine told <a href="http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/lana-del-rey-backlash-jimmy-iovine-286378" target="_blank"><I>The Hollywood Reporter</I></a>. "Maybe this is a new sport. It's something we've never seen before. Or maybe it's [like] the Giants and the Jets." Del Rey herself told <I>Rolling Stone</I> that she thought she looked "beautiful" and sang "fine" on the show, saying that "that's just the way I perform, and my fans know that." </P><P> </P><P>Say what you want about Del Rey's looks, attitude and performance ability, but Iovine said there is one thing you can't mess with. </P><P> </P><P>Musically, he thinks <I>Die</I> is "really good. Great lyrics and great songs. I don't care what anybody says, 'Video Games' is a great song. When she sings that song, it moves me. It's how we signed her — she sang and it was beautiful. I think she's really talented. Period."</p>

Miley Cyrus raps, twerks and stars as the high school bad girl in Mike WiLL Made It’s “23″ music video. See her lead a wild and raucous high school takeover in the new clip which also features rappers Juicy J and Wiz Khalifa.
Miley is at it again. Or to paraphrase the title of her own hit single, she can’t stop. In fact, she hasn’t stopped. The former teenaged Disney Channel star who was once synonymous with Hannah Montana has pushed those days far, far away to some distant galaxy of reruns and DVDs.
We fast forward to the present and there she is in rumored boyfriend Mike WILL Made It’s new video, “23,” and taking over the whole high school. She wears Michael Jordan’s Chicago Bulls jersey, but in typical Miley style she wears it as lingerie and goes through a few other underwear and lingerie costume changes throughout the video.
Miley hangs out with the crew — Mike WiLL Made IT, Juicy J and Wiz Khalifa as the music blasts over the intercom and classroom orderliness is over. She even raps a few lines — “Drinking out the bottle/ I got no respect/ Looking like a model/ Who just got a check” — scrawls graffiti in the restroom mirror with lipstick, sticks her tongue out, smokes cigarettes, and, yes, she twerks.
Mike WiLL Made It is the producer of her aforementioned “We Can’t Stop” single. The two have been seen in Terry Richardson photos and generally hanging out together. He’s got an album due out soon, “Est. in 1989, Pt. 3,” and “23″ is the lead single. For nonstop free publicity you can’t go wrong with Miley Cyrus twerking in underwear.

Nina Dobrev and Derek Hough Dating? New Couple Alert?
Are Nina Dobrev and Derek Hough dating? Rumor has it, that they are a new couple. Find out the latest on the “Vampire Diaries” star and the “Dancing with the Stars” champion who have been seen in each other’s company.
Talk about a television power couple! The 28-year-old Derek Hough just won an Emmy Award for choreography on DWTS, and the exotic model and actress, the 24-year-old Nina Dobrev is the star of a hit series on the CW, portraying both Elena Gilbert and Katherine Pierce. Reality TV and supernatural drama collide in a kiss?
According to US Weekly, the two have been dating since August. They quote a “source” who said the Nina had been hanging out with Julianne Hough, Derek’s sister, and “then she fell for him.” That same source says Derek is “smitten.” E! found another loquacious source who said of the pair that they are “already somewhat serious.”
Earlier in the year, her three-year relationship with Ian Somerhalder ended. In a previous interview Nina Dobrev implied she was not looking. But perhaps it’s inevitable if you happen to spend time with a friend who just happens to have a brother like Derek Hough? Perhaps some paparazzi photos might surface and prompt a confession?
But until such time do we take the word of these unnamed sources or not? Such unnamed sources have let us down before. We won’t know for sure as neither party has taken to Twitter — the preferred venue these days — to confirm the rumors.
But the New York Daily News does a bit of Twitter-investigating and notes that a glance at Nina Dobrev’s Twitter @NinaDobrev shows much affection in the aftermath of Derek’s Emmy: “”@Derekhough !!!!!!!! #EMMYWINNER I cant express in 140 characters how unbelievably excited+incredibly proud I am of you. You deserve this.”

Does Britney Spears Have 'The X Factor'?
MTV News takes a look at the pros and cons of bringing Spears onboard as a judge for the reality singing competition.

<P>The news that <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/spears_britney/artist.jhtml">Britney Spears</a> is reportedly in final negotiations to <a href="/news/articles/1680782/britney-spears-x-factor-judge-offer.jhtml">join "The X Factor"</a> has set the <a href="http://newsroom.mtv.com">MTV Newsroom</a> on fire. Opinion on whether the pop star is a good fit for the reality singing competition has been sharply divided, so we decided to take on the topic the way we're sure Simon Cowell did before making Spears a reported $10 million offer: a good, old-fashioned pros and cons list. </P><P> </P><P><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:698603/cp~vid%3D698603%26uri%3Dmgid%3Auma%3Avideo%3Amtv.com%3A698603" width="460" height="260" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="."></embed> </P><P> </P><P><big><b>Pro: She'll attract viewers</b></big><br> </P><P>The <a href="/news/articles/1671220/x-factor-simon-cowell-ratings.jhtml">debut season of "The X Factor"</a> performed well below expectations. Its heavily hyped premiere pulled in 12.1 million total viewers and a meager 4.4/12 rating in the advertiser-coveted 18 to 49 demographic. That's about half of what the 2011 season of "American Idol" averaged ("Idol" is having its own ratings woes this season), and it didn't even win the night: Emmy-winning sitcom "Modern Family" drew 14.3 million viewers and a 6.0/15 for its season premiere. </P><P> </P><P>The poor ratings precipitated the overhaul that saw judges <a href="/news/articles/1678191/paula-abdul-exits-x-factor.jhtml">Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger</a> and host Steve Jones fired from the show. </P><P> </P><P>There's no question that Spears would bring viewers to "The X Factor." She enjoys a large and devout fanbase who will basically follow her just about anywhere. And beyond her own fans, Spears' celebrity would also likely draw attention from the general public, who will tune in simply to see how she does. </P><P> </P><P><big><b> Con: She's become nervous on camera </b></big><br> </P><P> </P><P>Though she can still wow a crowd live in concert, as evidenced by last year's successful tour behind her hit album <i>Femme Fatale,</i> Spears has become increasingly tentative during interviews. She rarely grants on-camera sit-downs, and when she does, she seems nervous and uncomfortable. </P><P> </P><P>To be a strong judge or mentor on a reality show, you have to be <i>very</i> comfortable on camera. Part of what made Jennifer Lopez click last season on "Idol" was that she came across as confident, direct and often empathetic. She even broke down in tears after <a href="/news/articles/1658584/americaon-idol-top-24.jhtml">sending home contestant Chris Medina</a>, whose fiancée suffered a severe brain injury in a car accident. The key word here is <i>after.</i> It's hard to imagine Spears being able to keep it together and deliver such difficult news in similar circumstances. </P><P>It's worth noting that a high-drama situation arose on the first season of "The X Factor" -- one that left <a href="/news/articles/1675936/x-factor-rachel-crow-elimination-reaction.jhtml">contestant Rachel Crow sobbing</a> onstage and Scherzinger a wreck ... a wreck who received <a href="http://www.thefablife.com/2011-12-05/paula-abdul-and-nicole-scherzinger-receive-death-threats-after-the-x-factor-elimination/" target="_blank">death threats</a>. Producers should also consider whether it's wise to send Spears, who has dealt with emotional issues in the past, into a genre that thrives when the emotional stakes are high. </P><P> </P><P><big><b>Pro: she is a contemporary artist</b></big><br> </P><P>One of the things we like most about <a href="/news/articles/1680496/the-voice-battle-rounds.jhtml">"The Voice"</a> is that its judges — Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton — are all active artists. They are all still hitting the studio to make hit records, and that lends a great deal of credibility to their opinions when they critique a contestant's performance. We don't mean to slight Abdul or Scherzinger, but you could argue that a legacy singer who hasn't released an album in over 17 years and a performer who has had a difficult time getting her own solo singing career off the ground aren't the best judges of who does and does not have "The X Factor." </P><P> </P><P>On the other hand, Spears may be. <a href="http://newsroom.mtv.com/2011/03/29/britney-spears-femme-fatale-reviews/">Last year's <i>Femme Fatale</i></a> gave Spears three top-10 singles — the most of any of her seven albums — and earned some of the best reviews of her career. While it's true that she did not write or produce much of the record, she was most certainly involved in picking her collaborators, which actually could speak well of her ability to know talent when she sees it. Spears also smartly chose red-hot rapper Nicki Minaj to open on the North American leg of her tour. </P><P> </P><P>When it comes to the contemporary pop music scene, Spears knows what works. </P><P> </P><P><big><b>Con: She's not known for her singing</b></big><br> </P><P>Unlike Aguilera, whose talent as a vocalist is indisputable, Spears is not known for her singing. By signing her to judge and mentor a singing competition, "X Factor" producers are setting themselves up for inevitable criticism. "Who is Britney Spears to judge a singing competition?" critics will scream (and they won't be wrong). </P><P> </P><P>When Aguilera critiques a performer's vocals, she speaks with authority — and her ear for singing proved to make her the most discerning judge on the "Voice" panel during the <a href="/news/articles/1679565/the-voice-christina-aguilera-jonathas-usher.jhtml">blind auditions</a>. Spears' judging style will likely be based on liking what's already there, but she's not going to have much insight on missed notes or pitch, which will cripple her ability to further mentor her team. How can she help them improve as vocalists when it's a truth universally acknowledged that she's not really a vocalist herself? </P><P> </P><P><i>Do you think Britney Spears is a good choice for "The X Factor"? “I don’t know, it just has to feel right. There are a lot of things that I see on other people that I love, but I would never put on myself just because it wouldn’t look good. I think the most important thing is to feel good. That’s something I learned young.”

Is there any one standout piece that you have been able to snare from the set of Gossip Girl?
“It’s the first piece that I saw [while filming] Gossip Girl—a Gucci handbag, embroidered, with a bamboo handle wrapped in leather and rose-gold details. It was so beautiful that I said to the costume designer, ‘Oh. I can’t imagine…do you think one day I could buy something like that?’ She called Gucci, came back and said, ‘They said you can have it.’ It’s still one of my very, very favourite pieces.”

Coldplay, Led Zeppelin Album Covers Featured On New British Stamps
Album art from Pink Floyd, Blur and David Bowie also included.

<P>On Thursday (January 7), the U.K.'s Royal Mail unveiled a series of 10 new stamps, honoring the most iconic album covers of the past 40 years. </P><P> </P><P>The albums featured in the new series are the <a href="/music/artist/rolling_stones/artist.jhtml">Rolling Stones</a>' <i>Let It Bleed,</i> <a href="/music/artist/led_zeppelin/artist.jhtml">Led Zeppelin</a>'s <i>IV,</i> <a href="/music/artist/bowie_david/artist.jhtml">David Bowie</a>'s <i>The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars,</i> <a href="/music/artist/mike_oldfield/artist.jhtml">Mike Oldfield</a>'s <i>Tubular Bells,</i> <a href="/music/artist/clash/artist.jhtml">The Clash</a>'s <i>London Calling,</i> <a href="/music/artist/new_order/artist.jhtml">New Order</a>'s <i>Power, Corruption and Lies,</i> <a href="/music/artist/primal_scream/artist.jhtml">Primal Scream</a>'s <i>Screamadelica,</i> <a href="/music/artist/pink_floyd/artist.jhtml">Pink Floyd</a>'s <i>The Division Bell,</i> <a href="/music/artist/blur/artist.jhtml">Blur</a>'s <i>Parklife</i> and — the most recent album on to make the cut — <a href="/music/artist/coldplay/artist.jhtml">Coldplay</a>'s <i>A Rush of Blood to the Head.</i> </P><P> </P><P>Meant to honor "the most potent graphic images of modern times, many of which have provided a visual soundtrack to people's lives," the series is the end result of a lengthy research process by the Royal Mail, who looked through thousands of album covers by British artists before deciding on the final list. And, during a Wednesday night BBC Radio broadcast, it was revealed that the queen herself actually approved each design. </P><P> </P><P>Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page — who helped design the cover for <i>IV</i> — was on hand to celebrate the release of the stamps and recalled the mysterious nature of the album's iconic imagery. </P><P> </P><P>"Almost 40 years after the album came out, nobody knows the old man who featured on the cover, nor the artist who painted him," he said. "That sort of sums up what we wanted to achieve with the album cover, which has remained both anonymous and enigmatic at the same time." </P><P> </P><P>Of course, any great honor is befitting of an equally great contest, so, on the same day the stamps were made available to the general public, Coldplay decided to give one of their <i>Rush of Blood</i> stamps away. In a message on their official site, the band held a contest to send one lucky fan "a letter using a Coldplay stamp, postmarked with today's issue date." </P><P> </P><P>"We visited our local post office earlier today and bought some of the Coldplay stamps," the message read. "Very nice they are too."</p>
