Lifetime’s Aaliyah Biopic has a New Leading Lady

After drama broke out from Zendaya Coleman's casting in the Aaliyah biopic, Lifetime selected a new face to portray the late singer.

On Friday (July 18), Wendy Williams revealed that newcomer Alexandra Shipp is set to portray the R&B singer that passed away in 2001.

“I’m excited to exec produce the Aaliyah @lifetimetv movie w/ @DebraMChase. Prod starts later this month and @AlexShipppp will play Aaliyah,” Wendy tweeted.

As previously reported, Zendaya was set to portray Aaliyah but dropped out of the production process last month because she explained that the script wasn’t ready.

“Aaliyah: Princess of R&B” is based on the singer’s biography and is set to follow her life up until she died from a plane crash at the age of 22. It’s set to premiere on Lifetime in the fall.
