The first trailer for Frank Miller’s ‘Sin City: A Dame to Kill For’ has had its debut. It is the long awaited sequel to the original ‘Sin City’ of 2005 and stars returning cast members Jessica Alba, Rosario Dawson, Mickey Rourke, Bruce Willis, Jaime King and Powers Boothe along with several newcomers.
The movie was co-written (with William Monahan) and co-directed by Robert Rodriguez (‘Machete Kills’) and Frank Miller and is based on Miller’s comic book and graphic novel series of the same title.
Once again, Jessica Alba reprises her role as the unforgettable stripper Nancy Callahan who has, to say the very least, a colorful life history, having been kidnapped by a serial killer as a child and to grow up, smitten over the police detective who rescued her, John Hartigan, portrayed by Bruce Willis.
She is in but one of the four stories explored in the new movie bur likely the one that, on the outset gets the most attention. From the looks of the trailer, we are deep in film noir heaven — or hell, as the case may be.
The black-and-white cinematography from the looks of the trailer takes us deep into film noir heaven, or, hell, as the case may be. Details of plot and character are not readily apparent from a 90 second teaser of a clip, but for fans of Frank Miller’s style and sensibilities it is a tantalizing teaser. There’s lots of cigarette smoke, dark urban streets glistening with light, odd camera angles, and all that we expect when we enter Sin City!
Although it has been almost a decade since the last movie hit the big screen, this one may find its original audience and a new one as well as the interest in crime, and the urban underworld if anything, as increased as years have gone by. It’s amazing to realize that these stories were first published in the 1990s, they seem at once retro-1940s and yet also quite contemporary.
Some of the new cast members include Eva Green, Josh Brolin, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Dennis Haysbert, Ray Liotta, Stacy Keach, Jeremy Piven, and Lady Gaga among many others.
