Kim Kardashian talked about the Vogue magazine cover with her fiance Kanye West that has provoked backlash and controversy in an interview on Late Night with Seth Meyers.
The appearance on the program marked the 33-year-old ‘Keeping Up with the Kardashian’ star’s first television interview since the debut of the Vogue magazine cover photography by Annie Liebowitz which sees her cradled by her fiance Kanye West.
It’s a cover that has provoked strong reaction — quite a bit of it negative — on Twitter and social media and in major media as well as subscribers, celebrities and celebrity watchers have all been weighing in. And along the way there have been some spoofs of the cover, notably by James Franco and Seth Rogen who had also spoofed the couple’s appearance in Kanye West’s ‘Bound 2′ music video.
Well, now in the midst of the uproar, Kim Kardashian has her say. She spoke of her excitement of being on the cover of the iconic fashion magazine, saying of the photo shoot, “I knew it was happening of course but I didn’t know it would be the cover. I’m just so honored.”
She also talked about how she had kept it a secret even from her sisters, Khloe and Kourtney Kardashian. “They were a little suspicious.” She wen on to note that her mother and momager Kris Jenner “knew because we used part of her house, but I told them it was something for Kanye. I don’t keep the best secrets.”
And she shared some of the behind-the-scenes tidbits of the photo shoot which features some touching photos of the couple daughter, North West. She noted of one of the photos, “North peed on Kanye in that shot. He was trying to tell me. I had to get up and clean him off.”
While she did not specifically address any of the backlash she instead chose to put the Vogue cover it in an historical context, saying, “Kanye’s the first rapper, I’m the first reality star, we’re the first interracial couple.”
Regardless of what she did or did not say, the interview with Seth Meyers was guaranteed to make news, and naturally, the “Baby North peeing on Kanye West” angle has proven a popular one. But it is notable that in her soft spoken charming manner, she ran the gamut from fashion magazine history to perhaps TMI territory with that tidbit that her baby daughter did what babies often do with no regard for history. Well, it has been quite the highly publicized journey from sex tape notoriety to would-be fashion icon!
