Miley Cyrus made quite the impression on German television, on ‘Wetten, dass..?’ Leaving semi-nudity aside, she was dressed up as a strawberry as she performed ‘Wrecking Ball’ and sat for an interview!
The 20-year-old former Hannah Montana of the Disney Channel turned consistently provocative pop star made her debut on national television in Germany performing her hit single ‘Wrecking Ball’ on a stage with multicolored kaleidoscope-like lighting. Her emotional ballad does not call for twerking although she’s been known to go for see-through costumes to make up for it. But true to nature, her strawberry was suitably opaque!
She then sat for an interview on a range of topics including her controversial Terry Richardson-directed ‘Wrecking Ball’ video. “This was one of my crazy ideas that just kind of happens,” she said as a screen shot of the “crazy idea” in question — the naked star atop a wrecking ball — was shown.
“I’m really in tuned with my fans,” she added as she commented on her provocative performances. “I can only express myself as what I think and feel,” she said.
Asked about her costume, she confirmed, “I’m a strawberry” and went on to suggest that her childhood had not allowed her such opportunities. “I think that’s why I’m an adult dressed as a strawberry. Now I just dress as a strawberry whenever I want, or a teddy bear.”
Asked who her idol was — as the host named some likely candidates for her, Madonna, Lady Gaga and Cher — she bypassed the suggestions and said, “My Godmother Dolly Parton has always been my idol.”
She also was asked about a tattoo of her grandmother that she has on her right forearm. She said that her grandmother always inspired her.
Her performance on the show came on the eve of her much anticipated live performance in Amsterdam at the MTV EMAs where again she was to perform ‘Wrecking Ball.’ For those still reeling from her controversial MTV VMAs performance that launched the weeks-long discussion, there is some relief, as Robin Thicke — who described himself as the “twerkee — had already said he would not be performing with her this time.
This time, as she hits the MTV stage for the Europe Music Awards, she’s on her own. Strawberries? Teddy bears? Foam No. 1 fingers? Alas, we must hide the props — all of them — as nothing is safe!
