Margot Robbie on The ‘Wolf of Wall Street,’ Sex Scenes with Leonardo DiCaprio

Australian actress Margot Robbie is among the stars of Martin Scorsese’s ‘The Wolf of Wall Street.’ she spoke out about her role as trophy wife of Leonardo DiCaprio’s Jordan Belfort, the title character of the critically acclaimed but controversial movie.

Controversial indeed, as the memoir of Jordan Belfort, convicted of securities fraud after his years of swindling his clients with penny stock “pump and dump” deals that made him a multimillionaire literally at their expense, has hit the big screen it is unsparing about just what Belfort did during those years when he had the money to fuel his expensive drug habit as well as his sexual whims and material desires. Three hours of this on the screen has left some outraged and others in awe at the bravado filmmaking of legendary director Martin Scorsese.

For the 23-year-old Margot Robbie, it’s a breakthrough role. She has been seen everywhere in publicizing the movie, now recently in a cover story interview with Manhattan magazine, along with a sexy photo spread which is very much in keeping with the role she portrayed as the trophy wife, Naomi, of Jordan Belfort.

Relatively unknown in the U.S. the blonde actress is perfect in the role of a trophy wife in which physical attributes are everything, namely the extreme beauty and youthfulness that, much like the modeling world sees a woman over 25 suddenly too old.

She said of the role and of acting opposite Leonardo DiCaprio that it was “a dream come true. He’s always been my favorite actor.” She went on to say of working on the film, “Both he and [Martin Scorsese] have such massive presences when you’re around them—they’re unstoppable, like this force that keeps moving; they have so much dimension, it sometimes seems impossible to keep up with them. Working with Leo challenged me every single second—the challenge just to keep up with him pushed me and got my acting to a level it’s never been, which is incredibly satisfying.”

Margot Robbie also spoke about what it was like to do the graphic sex scenes with Leonardo DiCaprio in the movie which, as noted, no excesses of Belfort’s life — as he himself documented them — are spared from the screen. ” “We were positioned while they lit around us in one scene, and I kind of pushed Leo’s head to one side and told him he was in my light and he moved out of [it]. He was so incredulous that I had told him to get out of my light, and physically moved him out of the way, he was like, ‘Did you really just do that?’ I don’t think anyone has told him to get out of their light in quite some time. He seemed extremely [shocked], but it was kind of funny.”

She said of the director Martin Scorsese, “Before you step into a room with him, you’re so acutely aware of how undeserving you are to be there, to be [with] a film god like him…And then moments after spending time with him, you forget [about his] humongous reputation. … He’s just so warm and funny and really lovely to be around.”

She noted that she had met the real Belfort and said of him, There’s something very likeable about him, even though he did terrible things….Everything he does is 10 steps further than everyone else does it, and that can seem exciting.”

More of the Manhattan magazine interview along with the photo spread is here.

Margot Robbie did also take the opportunity talk about what it was like working with another of Hollywood’s A-listers, Will Smith, with whom she costars on the movie ‘Focus.’ Rumors long since dispelled had sprung up when photos of the two of them from the set of the movie went viral.

It’s clear that Margot Robbie is on the verge of stardom as she has been one of the principal beneficiaries of the immense attention ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’ has received. While the depiction of crimes and depraved behavior is debated, no one disputes the impressive performance she and other actors have delivered in the landmark film.
