The 61-year-old Liam Neeson has brought the gravitas that won him critical acclaim in such movies as ‘Schindler’s List’ to the action adventure genre, notably the ‘Taken’ franchise. As a couple he and his 45-year-old wife Natasha Richardson — the daughter of acting legend Vanessa Redgrave and the late director Tony Richardson — were in the prime of their respective careers.

But suddenly, she lost her life in a freak skiing accident in Quebec, Canada. She suffered an epidural hematoma, causing swelling of the brain which left her brain dead.

He spoke with Anderson Cooper in the ’60 Minutes’ interview about the final hours of his wife’s life saying, “She was on life support…I went in to her and I told her I loved her, said ‘Sweetie, you’re not coming back from this, you’ve banged your head’…she and I had made a pact, if any of us got into a vegetative state that we’d pull the plug…that was my immediate thought…’Okay, these tubes have to go. She’s gone.’”

He went on to speak about how he had donated three of her organs, “so she’s keeping three people alive at the moment…her heart, her kidneys and her liver. It’s terrific…and I think she would be very thrilled and pleased by that.”

He also opened up about his grief. He said that her death “was never real. It still kind of isn’t.” He went on to say, “There’s periods now in our New York residence when I hear the door opening, especially the first couple of years…anytime I hear that door opening, I still think I’m going to hear her.”

Of his grief, he said, “It hits you. It’s like a wave. You just get this profound feeling of instability…the Earth isn’t stable anymore and then it passes and it becomes more infrequent, but I still get it sometimes.”

Natasha Richardson was in the comedy ‘Wild Child’ with costar Emma Roberts which became her last screen appearance. She was also the mother of the couple’s children, two sons Micheal and Daniel.

Liam Neeson is the star of the upcoming thriller ‘Non Stop’ in which he portrays an air marshal embroiled in a terrorist hijacking plot. In the ’60 Minutes’ interview he shared his thoughts about being an action star at age 61. An addition segment sees him return to his native Northern Ireland and reminiscing about his upbringing.
