Jennifer Lopez spoke about how she helped Leah Remini in her decision to leave Scientology and on their friendship. She also talked about her hot new song I Luh Ya Papi,’ American Idol and more on ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show.’
The 44-year-old superstar entertainer and American Idol judge Jennifer Lopez discussed a range of topics on ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show,’ but nothing makes headlines like a discussion of the controversial Church of Scientology. In this instance, she opened up for the first time in a television interview about her role in helping the former ‘The King of Queens’ star in her highly publicized split with Scientology after having grown up in the faith as a child and continuing throughout her adult life.
Ellen DeGeneres noted that when Leah Remini had been on the show she had credited Jennifer Lopez for helping her in making the decision. To which Lopez said, “Yeah. It was a tough moment for her. It’s all she knew her whole life. When you’re raised a certain way and you’re around people for a long time, whatever that is, it’s going to be hard. We’re good friends.”
Jennifer Lopez, also talked about her new single ‘I Luh Ya Papi’ which is getting quite a buzz both for its racy music video that turns the tables, objectifying men instead of women, as well as for her debut TV performance of it on American Idol, with some of the show’s most notable alumns, Jessica Sanchez, Pia Toscano and Allison Iraheta.
She said of the title, “It’s a little slangy” and said of Detail, the song’s producer, “He’s a great producer. He works with a lot of hip-hop artists like Wade and all these guys and Drake and when we were doing the record, you know, it was like I love you. Right? And so I’d be like ‘I love you Papi, I love you.’ He’s like ‘no, no. It’s I luh ya.’ And I was like ‘I luh ya? Ya okay. I luh ya Papi, I luh ya.’ I was like ‘okay’ like every word was so micromanaged by him. It was very kind of a specific thing he wanted for the record.”
Jennifer Lopez was under the weather with bronchitis and this led to some joking around, after she hugged Ellen DeGeneres and then afterwards asked if she were a germophobe to which the host replied, “There’s a rumor going around that I am a germaphobe and I don’t know how that got started it’s just that I don’t want to get sick.”
They also discussed American Idol, of which she said, “I feel they are all super talented kids.” She also said that she thought it was too quick to move them from Hollywood Week to the big stage. It’s good. It’s good.” She was also asked about what it was like working with the other judges; Keith Urban who is back for a second season and Harry Connick Jr. who is new this season. She said, “It’s funny. Harry for me is funny. He’s so focused on critiquing. He’s so into critiquing the talent.” She suggested that he should try to have more fun with it.
