An Entire House Full of Transforming Furniture Would Be Amazing (Even if It Means It Will Destroy Your Life) [Design]

Transforming furniture is amazing (this is well-documented, BTW), and when I saw Boxetti's line of transforming modules for every part of the home, I basically made a mess of myself. There's a couch that turns into a table and a desk. There's a kitchen that packs into a box. A desk that pops out of the wall. OMG. SO. GOOD. More »

Help Bob make money in Sticks, a fun physics game

sticks
Sticks is another one of those rare games where the intro is actually worth watching. It introduces you to office worker Bob, who is basically a wage slave fantasizing about a better existence.

Then, on his way back home from another grueling day at the office, he passes a huge sign which says "Sticks." This is where the game starts.

Each level has a number of coins hovering in mid-air, and your goal is to place sticks that lead those coins to Bob -- but you only have a limited amount of wood to play with. As soon as you're done placing your sticks strategically, hit the big Play button and let nature, or rather gravity, run its course. The coins will drop down, and if you place your sticks correctly, they will roll all the way to Bob.

The soundtrack is soothing and playful, and didn't get on my nerves even after playing for quite a while. All in all, a very cute game, especially for a day at the office.

Carphone Warehouse confirm release dates for the new Sony Xperia T & Xperia J

Android Central

We told you yesterday that Carphone Warehouse had opened up a pre-registration page on its website for the new Sony Xperia T which was announced at IFA this week. Some progression has now been made and release dates have now been sent out by the retailer for the Xperia T and Xperia J. If you are looking to pick up either of the new swanky Xperia smartphones you can do so on September 5th. Unfortunately, prices are not yet confirmed but I would imagine that we will be updated very soon. In addition, Sony's new Xperia tablet S has been priced and will set you back £329 for the WiFi version and £429 for the 3G variant. No date has been confirmed for its release.

Nice to see a short turnaround between announcement and availability. This we like.

Corel releases VideoStudio Pro X4, we go hands on (video)

videostudioprox4
Corel seems to be on a roll lately; after releasing WinZip System Utilities just last week, this morning the company announced VideoStudio Pro X4.

VideoStudio Pro is aimed at home users and small business professionals who want to create professional-looking videos, but without the hassle, steep learning curve and price of Adobe Premiere Pro and the likes.

This new version introduces several features:
  • Stop motion animation: You can now capture still frames using a webcam, camcorder or DSLR and use them to produce an animation. Tools such as "onion skin view" let you compare the previous image in the sequence with the current one and make the animation as smooth as possible.
  • Processor optimization: Corel says the app is optimized for Intel's new Sandy Bridge systems, and have shown us some graphs with very impressive numbers. We've been unable to test this particular point, but if you have a recent-generation Intel or AMD Fusion system, VideoStudio performance should be blazing. Even on our older test system performance was quite impressive.
  • Customizable workspace: You can drag the video preview window to your secondary monitor (if you have one) and tweak just about any other element in the window layout. Once done, you can save your ideal workspace in one of three slots.
  • Share-to-Web: VideoStudio Pro X4 hooks directly into YouTube, Vimeo, Facebook and Flickr, so you don't even have to launch a browser to upload your final product. Edit, produce and share from within the app itself.
  • Smart Package: Video projects typically consist of many files; Smart Package lets you bundle all video assets for a given project into one ZIP file which you can password-protect and keep in a safe place once you're done editing.
I've had a chance to play around with a pre-release version for a few days, and have put it through its paces editing a short video for my day job. Overall, I've been impressed with how easy it was to create pro-looking results. If you do any sort of video editing but are leery of the investment other apps require (both in dollars and effort), VideoStudio Pro is well worth checking out. To see a bit of the interface itself and what the app can do, watch the video after the jump.

Note: We'll be running a give-away of ten VideoStudio Pro X4 licenses later today, each worth $100 USD. Keep your eyes peeled for the giveaway post!

Netatmo Introduces the First Personal Weather Monitoring Station for iOS

We’ve all seen those little desktop weather stations that show the indoor and outdoor temperatures and maybe humidity.  They’re useful, but there are many other parameters that could prove more useful in an urban environment, like air quality.  Netatmo has introduced the Personal Urban Weather Station, the first to use your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad with personal weather monitors to track  indoor and outdoor environmental conditions – temperature, humidity, air pressure, CO2 levels and even sound levels.   You’ll get two monitors, one for indoors and another for outdoors, that have aluminum bodies to protect them from the elements they are monitoring.  Collected data is transmitted via WiFi to your iOS device, and your data is also stored in the cloud.  You’ll be able to monitor current conditions, see graphs to recognize trends, see a 7-day forecast, receive alerts, and more.  The Netatmo Weather Station is $179.00.

Samsung Galaxy Camera accessories include external ring flashes, wireless charging pad, barn door ring eyeson

Samsung's going all out with its Galaxy Camera accessory lineup. In addition to the cases and Flip Covers we saw at Unpacked earlier this week, the company had some external flashes and professional-looking holsters on hand at its IFA booth, including a grip-mounted adjustable strobe, a ring light set and a sophisticated carrying rig, complete with hinged barn doors to block out unwanted glare. There were also hard covers in multiple dark colors, a handful of soft rubber-looking covers in light colors like aqua and lime green, along with an oversized wireless charging pad mock-up. In typical IFA fashion, booth attendants were unable to provide any information whatsoever, so it's anyone's guess what any of these gadgets cost, or if they'll even make it to market. It's also unclear whether or not any of the accessories are functional at this point, or simply mock-ups of add-ons under consideration. In the meantime, you can take a closer look in the gallery below.

Haier's Eye-Controlled Display Could Be the Future of Super-Lazy TV Watching [Television]

Why spend the effort messing around using a Wiimote-like remote, or even shouting at the TV, to get it to change channel, when you can just stare at what you want and blink to select? Well, that's Haier's theory anyway, and, amazingly, it actually works. More »
