He was the distinguished guest of honor at the 2014 BET Awards last night (June 29), and Lionel Richie's Lifetime Achievement Award acceptance speech was almost flawless.
The “Dancing on the Ceiling” singer began to read his piece when the graphic on the screen misspelled his last name- Ritchie (it’s really Richie).
Fans began taking to Twitter to criticize the network for the error, with one man writing, “You really didn't misspell his name, @BETAwards!!!!???? C'mon y'all!!! OMG!!!”
Nonetheless, Lionel declared, "Soul is a feeling. Not a color. Talent is a God-given gift, and not a category. Out of the box is that magical place where talent -– pure talent goes -– to live and thrive and breath. And may you never give that up as long as you're in this business."
