Philip Seymour Hoffman’s Last Movie: ‘A Most Wanted Man’ Trailer (Video)

The trailer of ‘A Most Wanted Man,’ has made its debut online. A screen adaptation of the John le Carré novel of the same title, it stars Philip Seymour Hoffman in one of his final two unseen movie roles and reveals the greatness of late actor.

Philip Seymour Hoffman died on Super Bowl Sunday, February 2 of a heroin overdose in his apartment in New York City’s Greenwich Village. While his tragic and untimely death at 46 has still left the entertainment world in shock, seeing the theatrical trailer of one of his two last movies, only serves to remind us of what we have lost, a true acting legend.

He had two movies premiering at Sundance just weeks before his death. Along with ‘A Most Wanted Man,’ he was also a costar the black comedy, ‘God’s Pocket,’opposite ‘Mad Men’ stars John Slattery and Christina Hendricks.

Directed by Dutch filmmaker and music video director Anton Corbinj and adapted for the screen by Andrew Bovell, “A Most Wanted Man” costars Rachel McAdams, Robin Wright, Willem Dafoe, Daniel Brühl and Nina Hoss It sees Hoffmann portraying a German intelligence officer, Gunter Bachmann who is responsible for overseeing anti-terrorism spies who are infiltrating the Muslim community in Hamburg.

With an impeccable accent and a physical transformation that is just as astounding, we see even in the trailer that Hoffman has become the character Gunther Bachmann. He utters the words, ”German intelligence needs a job to be done that German law won’t let it do.’ Immediately we are immersed in the drama. It’s no longer about watching a masterful actor at work. We are seeing a drama unfold as a determined Bachmann is determined to hunt down a Muslin academician who is a suspected terrorist sympathizer.

The movie has received rave reviews in general, and Hoffmann’s performance has been singled out especially, as typified by The Guardian’s assessment, “It’s a professional old-school espionage outing, intricate as clockwork and acted with relish by the ever-watchable Hoffman.”

The movie opens in theaters in the U.S. on July 25th. The official theatrical trailer is below.
