Alison Sweeney Leaving ‘Days Of Our LIves’ after 21 Years (Video)

Alison Sweeney is leaving ‘Days of Our Lives.’ For the past 21 years, she has portrayed Sami Brady on the popular NBC soap opera. On ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ she confirmed her exit and the reasons for her decision.

The 37-year-old actress is known to both the daytime TV soap audience and the primetime reality TV audience as she has been host of NBC’s ‘The Biggest Loser’ for the past seven years. Now she is calling it quits with one of her TV gigs at the end of this year.

She told host Ellen DeGeneres: “I’ve been on Days of Our Lives since I was 16-years-old.” Indeed that’s a long time! She has literally gone from adolescence to adulthood on before the cameras portraying the same character who similarly has grown up over the years as viewers have witnessed the twists and turns of her maturation — or perhaps lack of same, given the character’s history as an incessant manipulator with a long, long track record of relationships gone awry.

Alison Sweeney went on to say, “And I have never had more than a two-week vacation in that whole time.” Reflecting, she added, “I mean it’s awesome. I love Sami, I love Salem, I love my job, I love daytime, I love the fans, I love everything about it.”

As for why she made the decision, she said, “I just have worked so much and my daughter just turned five and my son is nine and I just want to be with them and enjoy my last year. I’m going to be on ‘Days’ all this year.”

As for the future of the character, we wouldn’t expect her to reveal any details and, true to form she did not. Will this be the end of Sami Brady? Some tragic death? Or will she leave Salem, never to return? Or will another actress will take over the role?

Fans will have to live with the questions but it should be noted Alison Sweeney did add some intrigue as she said, “I mean it would be awesome to have some kind of happy ending but then I also think Sami probably deserves some sort of very twisted like ‘Breaking Bad’ ending.”

Yes, that would be a memorable exit! It would have fans talking for some time. See the interview below!
