Miley Cyrus spoke about her breakup with ‘Hunger Games’ star Liam Hemsworth, her former fiance, in an interview with Barbara Walters as part of the ’10 Most Fascinating People’ annual TV special. The pop star was candid about the relationship and how she felt upon its dissolution.
The 21-year-old Miley Cyrus and the 23-year-old Liam Hemsworth publicly announced the end of their engagement in September. They began dating after meeting on the set of ‘The Last Song,’ a movie based on the Nicholas Sparks novel of the same title. The two were the lead characters who fell in love. As is often the case, a screen romance became an off-screen romance. At the young age of 19, the former Disney Channel Hannah Montana was engaged to the rising Australian screen idol Liam Hemsworth.
In her interview with broadcast legend Barbara Walters’ final ’10 Most Fascinating People’ special, Miley Cyrus shared the emotional turmoil she went through as the relationship was coming to an end. She said: “I was so scared of ever being alone, and I think, conquering that fear, this year, was actually bigger than any other transition that I had, this entire year.”
It has been quite a year, publicly, for Miley Cyrus whose controversial performances — from the infamous twerking with Robin Thicke at the MTV VMAs to the naked ride she took on an actual wrecking ball on the Terry Richardson-directed ‘Wrecking Ball’ music video to lighting up a joint on stage at the Europe Music Awards in Amsterdam and much, much more. Dominating the talk in media and social media sent her album ‘Bangerz’ to no. 1 on the Billboard 200. It was indeed quite a year.
All the while, the pop star was dealing with the breakup. She added: “I don’t ever want to have to need someone again, where you feel like, without them, you can’t be yourself.”
She went on to note that her young age at the time of her engagement was a factor. She said, “I don’t think I realized what 19 truly is, and I got engaged at 19, and I definitely wouldn’t change being engaged…It was so fun wearing a fat rock for a few years. But now, I just feel like I can actually be happy. I wait for those moments of silence, when I’m just at my house, by myself.”
Others who made the ’10 Most Fascinating People of 2013′ list include Jennifer Lawrence, Edward Snowden, Kim Kardashian, Kanye West and the Roberson family, i.e. the cast of the ‘Duck Dynasty’ reality TV show.
