‘Fast & Furious’ Star Paul Walker is dead at age 40. He has died a sudden, shocking and untimely death in a fiery car crash near Santa Clarita, California, just moments after attending a charitable event.
One hoped against hope that this was yet another Twitter hoax. That is always the hope, isn’t it? But sadly the news was true, and confirmed by multiple reports in media as well as the official statement from Universal Studios, producer of the “Fast & Furious” movies as well as a post at Paul Walker’s Facebook fan page.
It was a two-person, one car accident, and Paul Walker was the passenger in the vehicle, a red 2005 Porsche Carrera GT. Media reports later identified the driver as Roger Rodas, the CEO of Walker’s car company. He also died in the crash. There were also multiple witnesses, some of whom captured on video — now uploaded to YouTube — the crash and the attempts of onlookers to rescue him and the driver.
The statement from Paul Walker’s Facebook page is in part:
…We appreciate your patience as we too are stunned and saddened beyond belief by this news. Thank you for keeping his family and friends in your prayers during this very difficult time. We will do our best to keep you apprised on where to send condolences. – #TeamPW
And the statement from Universal Studios:
““All of us at Universal are heartbroken. Paul was truly one of the most beloved and respected members of our studio family for 14 years, and this loss is devastating to us, to everyone involved with the ‘Fast and Furious’ films and to countless fans. We send our deepest and most sincere condolences to Paul’s family.”
On a Thanksgiving Day weekend, the news of his death could not be more of a shock. As noted, just prior to his death, he was attending a charity event — ironically a car show — for his organization Reach Out Worldwide (roww.org), which is dedicated to providing “quick-response, mobile first aid” for “rescue and recovery after major natural disasters” in the world. The event was specifically to raise money for victims of the recent typhoon in the Philippines. The actor was known for such charitable efforts.
Paul Walker is best known for his recurring role as Brian O’Conner in the “Fast & Furious” franchise which includes: “The Fast and the Furious,” “2 Fast 2 Furious,” “Fast & Furious,” “Fast Five” and “Fast & Furious 6.” He also appears in the upcoming “Fast & Furious 7″ which will open in theaters in the summer of 2014.
However, that is not his final film role. He will also be seen in the forthcoming movie, “Brick Mansions,” a remake of the French action movie “District 13,” which will be released in the spring of 2014. He portrays an undercover cop who infiltrates the gang of a crime lord that has access to a neutron bomb.
He was also seen previously in such movies as “Running Scared” and “Pleasantville.” Paul Walker is survived by a 16-year-old daughter, Meadow Walker.
