How to watch the 57th US presidential inauguration from your iPhone and iPad

If you're a US citizen, you're probably aware that Barack Obama will be sworn in for his second term on Monday, January 21, 2013. If you own an iPhone or iPad, you can keep up with the inauguration including streaming live video.

There are quite a few options to choose from so if you aren't sure where you can catch all the action come Monday, follow along and we'll get you the apps and resources you need to catch every minute of the 2013 Inauguration.

Official Inauguration 2013 app for iPhone

Inauguration 2013 for iPhone is sponsored by AT&T and is the official app for the presidential inauguration this year. It isn't available for iPad but if you're only concerned with following media from your iPhone, it's probably your best choice.

Aside from providing a live stream on inauguration day, Inauguration 2013 for iPhone also provides maps and routes for events and parades that will be going on surrounding the inauguration. Upon first launching Inauguration 2013 you'll also be asked if you'd like to receive text updates about events. You don't have to opt in but if you're going to be out and about, it's a nice option so you know you're up to date on what's going on.

There are also options for volunteering, photos, and social which feeds in stories about the inauguration from sources on the web. Inauguration 2013 is a free download in the App Store for iPhone owners.

News outlet apps for iPhone and iPad

There are lots of news outlets that are providing live streams of the event as well. If you prefer a more robust experience with complete news, coverage, snippets, supplementary photos, and more - we recommend trying one of the following apps.

You also never know how hard any one app or live stream will get hit with viewers and web traffic so for live events of this magnitude, we recommend downloading a few so if one live stream goes down, it's easy for you to quickly switch to one that isn't having issues.

If you have an iPad, you'll definitely want to check out some of the ones below since the official Inauguration 2013 app is iPhone only at this time. Some news outlets even have dedicated optimized iPad apps which provide for a better viewing experience. The best part? Most, if not all, are available to you for free.
