Yes, it was none other than Britney in the desert of Nevada, arriving in a helicopter where more than 1,000 fans and Sam Champion of Good Morning America awaited her arrival. She stepped out of the copter and into a waiting SUV which then drove her to a red carpet.
Speaking with Sam Champion, she announced a two-year headlining residency at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas; 50 shows each year starting December 27th. She also revealed that her next album will be due out on December 3rd. A day earlier, her new single, “Work B**ch,” hit iTunes officially after the obligatory unauthorized leak to the Internet.
In a separate interview, recorded earlier for broadcast that same morning, Britney dished on a variety of other topics including long-ago boyfriend Justin Timberlake as well as Miley Cyrus. It was just a few years ago that Britney’s was the talked-about performance at the MTV VMAs, as she was criticized for being out of shape and appearing to have worn her underwear on stage.
Offering notable empathy, she said of Miley Cyrus’ twerking and tongue wagging performance at this year’s MTV VMAs, “I think any time you’re doing a performance that’s that memorable, you’re going to have criticism. I think she’s doing her thing. She’s being herself so I give props to her.” To coin a phrase, a controversial performance is in the eye of the beholder. Or perhaps she is envisioning the same rehabilitation for a fellow pop star as she herself has experienced.
And years later, what a rehabilitation from tabloid perennial to Vegas headliner! Though it took a trek to the desert to tell us, Britney is back! Witness for yourself in the videos below.
